Honley Hounds ran their first Scentwork UK trial on 25 October. First thanks must go to Tracey Eaton and Pauline James who made this venture possible – they make a GREAT team to work with! We were a little worried about whether we’d have enough help to pull it off, but June Hines, Caroline Martin, Linda Newbold, and David Waite were fantastic as scribes, score experts, and (with Pauline) runner. Thanks also to Nigel Hines and Gary Martin who were there to help set up and take down. Not least, thanks go to the competitors for their entries, their super dogs and their acceptance of the Judges’ decisions and the venue’s minimal rules. We’ve found that our venue is ideal for Scentwork UK Levels, we’ve had extra offers of help from some of our competitors for the next trial and we’re looking forward to running more.

We were lucky enough to have very nice, keen dogs and lovely handlers. All the dogs are more than capable of moving up a level, there were only minor handling errors and the three false alerts in the whole trial were just caused by a little inexperience. Three competitors ended up with 100% marks and a further three got clean sweeps.
