Thanks to Becky Milne for agreeing to judge our first trial.
Here is what she had to say about the event:

It was a real pleasure to be asked by Sandra to judge her first Scentwork Uk trial level 1. I was very excited to be part of it as it was my first time judging. I was a little bit apprehensive but I enjoyed every minute of it.

The trial was held at Boggs Holdings, Pencaitland. The day had been a typical Scottish day of rain. I was praying it would go off before the trial that night. Unfortunately it didn’t, but us Scots are hardy people and didn’t let it dampen our spirits.

A huge thank you to Sean for timekeeping and keeping the flow going. Maureen did a fantastic job keeping note of the scores. We couldn’t have got through it without Carolyn’s steady flow of tea, coffee and cakes. Also thanks to Phil for helping Sandra to keep everything running smoothly.

Level 1

We started with the exterior search. I loved watching all the dog’s different styles of searching. Some were meticulous and made sure to check everything, while others zoned in on the scent almost straight away. We had a couple of false alerts but that was probably just nerves kicking in.

Next we went indoors to the tables and chairs. The handlers and dogs worked really well as a team. Lots of lovely searches and the handlers did really well reading their dog’s body language.

Back out in the rain we went to do the vehicle search. Everyone was really good about making sure the dogs completed their searches. We had a couple of false alerts but the dogs worked very hard.

We finished with the boxes and bags. By now the dogs were really in the swing of things. With Sasha finding the scent in 8 seconds!

We finished the night with hot beverages, cakes and prise giving .

Well done and thank you to everyone for taking part and making it a great event.
