Trial Manager and Judges Reports

Thank you to Marie for inviting me to judge. Marnie Wells stepped in as trial manager and was also my scribe. Big thank you Marnie, you did an excellent job.
With storm Brendan forecast to hit from lunchtime we decided to start with the external search. The wind was already up and swirling as I was putting the 4 hides out. Given the weather conditions most teams found the external search challenging. All hides were found but no team managed to get them all. The hide that proved the most challenging was on the corner of the building. Near the corner was a wooden palate. With the wind swirling dogs were finding it difficult to source and some teams were convinced the hide was on the palate rather than the wall.
Internal 1; I used the main hall area and put out 5 hides. After the challenge of the external most teams worked really well on this element. I had placed a line of 10 chairs down the centre of the hall. I put 2 hides on the line of chairs, one at each end. I anticipated that most teams would pick these 2 hides up quickly and thus provide a confidence boost to the handlers. Most teams found 4 of the 5 hides, with 2 teams getting all 5.
Internal 2; area consisted of a disabled loo, lobby and a third of a meeting room. I put 3 hides out . 1 was located on a sink pipe in the toilet and the remaining 2 in the meeting room. The majority of teams got all 3.
