Trial Manager and Judges Reports

Unfortunately I had to step in as judge on this trial, the competitors took the news very well when I announced it to them just before the walk through. Being a new venue there is always the feeling of I hope this goes well, happily I think it did, the nooks and crannies in an older building gives the opportunity to really make it an interesting search and test bother the handlers skills sending into corners and their observation skills of where did the dog not check. Very well done to the qualifiers you worked well.

Due to physical limitations (walking!) I was unable to judge this L5, and so a million thanks to Pippa Bentham for standing in (ironic wording) at the last moment. Upton Lovell was a new trials venue for us – situated in a delightfully quiet rural location, with a small hall that lent itself perfectly to scentwork trials. We had recce’d the area for suitable find locations previously, which meant we could do the walk through, place the finds, white dog, and get going as soon as possible. The finds were fair but challenging (more for the handler than dog, as ever) and we had a 50% pass rate. From the laughter heard echoing in the car park at odd intervals, it seemed that everyone enjoyed the afternoon and took something positive away with them.
