Trial Manager and Judges Reports

Langley Burrell Level 7 Trial 9th December2019
It was a pleasure to be asked to judge the Level 7 Trial by Marie, although the Trial Manager for the day was Lindsay as Marie had entered the trial.
I arrived at 9.30 for a 10 am start and as I had been to the venue before I knew roughly where my hides would be!
I did the briefing for the 6 teams entered and we were soon ready to start. I decided that there would be 4 hides in each of the 3 search areas. And the Main Hall and a toilet would be used for Interior Search 1. The 4 hides were hidden on a dado rail, door frame, plastic electric and an early hide by the door at the start of the search area, the distraction cloth was hid in the toilet.
The first two teams found 2 out of the 4 hides and then one team had problems as their dog was very and she decided to withdraw from the rest of the trial. The remaining team found either 2 or 3 of the hides.
The second search was the Exterior and on this search, I hide one on the wooden pallet, one in a hole close to a down pipe, another in the bottom of a door and the final hide by the drainpipe at the end of the building. Again, the dogs had some difficulty in finding more than 2 or 3 on this search.
The final search was the hall by the kitchen and a room. I was aware that we were struggling to have anyone pass this level, so the hides reflected this. One in a cabinet, another in a corner, one was behind a seat and the 4th was on a wooden frame near chairs.
I am not sure whether it was nerves, but the teams were finding these hides difficult, but Nikki and Eli proved it could be done by finding all 4 and calling a clear. This meant that they were the only team to pass and they also got their Excellent Award which was well deserved.
I would like to thank Marie, Lindsay who also scribed for me and the runners for getting us through the day and keeping everybody moving.
