Judges Report – Level 5

Thanks to Karen Denton for asking me to judge this trial and thank you to Hazell Williamson for letting us use her venue.

We started with interior 1 which was held in the bottom part of “The Dog House” this included a toilet and a small kitchen area. 5 hides were put out and they were an arm of chair, table leg in the toilet, and bottom of a heater, these were all gun oil. 2 clove scents were put out and they were placed in a cupboard door and the back of a plug socket. 1 team found all the hides and that was Richard & Ziggy. 4 teams found 4 hides and they were Jackie & Poppy, Jan & Amber, Paula & Ludo and Paula & Bonnie Jazz. 1 team found 3 and that was Vanessa & Willow. 1 team found 2 and that was John & Skip. 1 team found 1 and that was Peter & Coco. The most missed hide was the one on the bottom of the fire.

Then it was the exterior search, this was held around a static caravan and patio area. The hides were clove on a support leg to the left of the caravan perimeter, cloves again on the next support leg, gun oil underneath a doormat and gun oil on a bracket around the right of the perimeter. 3 teams found all 4 hides and they were Peter & Coco, Jan & Amber and Richard & Ziggy. 4 teams found 3 hides and they were Vanessa & Willow, Jackie & Poppy, Paula & Bonnie Jazz and Paula & Ludo. 1 team found 2 hides and that was John & Skip. The most missed hide was the first scent on the left of the caravan and that seemed to be down to the handlers not covering the area.

Lastly it was interior 2, this was held at the top end of the the Dog House it comprised a cupboard, stack of chairs, boxes and some randomly placed cones. The hides were cloves on the edge of a folding table, gun oil on the bottom of a hessian coffee sack hanging up, and the last scent was gun oil on the edge of a stack of cones. 5 teams found 2 hides and they were Jan & Amber, Peter & Coco, Paula & Ludo, Paula & Bonnie Jazz and Richard & Ziggy. 1 team found 1 hide and that was Vanessa & Willow. 1 team withdrew and that was John & Skip. The most missed hide was the coffee sack with only 1 team finding this and that was Paula & Ludo.

Only 4 of the 8 teams qualified and they were in 1st place Richard & Ziggy, 2nd Place Jan & Amber and in joint 3rd place was Paula & Ludo and Paula & Bonnie Jazz. Well done everyone.

I look forward to seeing you all in the future.

Ali Brannen

There was a morning group and an afternoon group once again for our Trial at Great Rollright – this time a Level 5. The afternoon weather was better than the morning but the enthusiasm was just the same from the dog teams.

Ali Brannen set a fair but challenging test for our eight dogs with half of them qualifying. Richard & Ziggy put in a sterling challenge and confidently won 1st place. A great team who will go far. Jan & Amber took 2nd place and the two Paulas with Ludo and Bonnie Jazz came joint 3rd on exactly the same
points and time. Ludo was the only dog of the day who managed to indicate the hanging coffee sack in front of the hooked up dog leads. Other dogs knocked the scent but their handlers weren’t expecting it to be there so they moved their dogs on. It’s always important to investigate those knocks.

My thanks go once again to Ali Brannen for judging and Hazell Williamson who has allowed us to become a bubble and let us put on these trials in her lovely home.

I hope you all enjoyed and look forward to seeing you again soon.
