On the 16th of March I had the pleasure of judging a level 1 trial for Naomi.
The weather was definitely not in our favour. We had 40mph winds and worse forecast for the afternoon. With this in mind we wanted to get the outside searches done as soon as we could.
To settle the competitors down we started of with the table and chairs.
This was a very successful search area. I saw some lovely handling and beautiful knock backs by their dogs.
We moved on to the vehicle search which I expected them to struggle with because of the strong wind but the dogs rocked it. I didn’t even have to allow the 6 inch rule as their noses were spot on, this was a credit to them all.
As the weather was deteriorating we cracked on with the exterior search. We was lucky enough to have some shelter from the wind on this search.
It was lovely to see the competitors take on some of my advice by moving around and letting the dogs get on with their job without nagging them. The shoe gave them no problems and we had some real speedy finds.
We took a break for lunch, there was plenty of refreshments around which Naomi had so kindly provided.
The last search of the day was the boxes and luggage. Although the dogs were getting tired they still did this search with conviction.
Most of these searches were done on lead and overall the handling skill was very good. Just remember keep quiet, give your dogs room to work they know what they are doing and keep moving in all directions.
Congratulations to everyone who took part. You should be very proud of yourself and your dogs who worked so well together.
An extra special well done to the teams who got placed. Kathryn and Toffee who came 1st with a clean sweep, Lesley and Kilbo who came 2nd with a clean sweep and got their excellence rosette, Pauline and Denzel who came 3rd and Mikylla and Eve who came 4th.
I had the most fantastic day and loved meeting you all.
The trial run really smoothly which couldn’t of happened without the fantastic venue, our host Naomi, my scribes Ruth and Odette and the runners Sarah and Carole, who kept me topped up with tea.
So thank you all for making me feel so welcome.
Sue.
