Trial Manager and Judges Reports

It was a pleasure to judge such a lovely group of competitors with a wide variety of dogs and work styles. We started with tables and chairs, with a couple of dogs making it so difficult for themselves by squeezing in and under the table to indicate on the correct chair even though the scent was easily accessible from the outside. The TM kindly volunteered her car for the vehicle search and the teams worked well in the rural setting to locate the scent. The indoor door container search found an early bag holding the scent, which suited the work pattern of the lovely Jax, our eventual winner, who always started with whatever was nearest to him and methodically worked his way though the areas, hence recording a time of 8.2 seconds. Wow! All our qualifiers found the correct items in the exterior search. Nerves always play a part in trials, regardless of the level, but all of our L1’s today were always calm and considerate to their dogs – well done all, and I hope you continue to enjoy your scentwork journeys up through the levels. Congratulations to all the qualifiers but special mention to our 100% teams of Clare Cotterall and Jax, Lin Husher and Tiva and Julie Saunders and Maya. Thank you, as always, to the ever-efficient, ever-smiling team of TM Caroline and Scribe Pippa.

Thank you Zoe Heritage for judging and Pippa Bentham for scribing at today’s trial. It would not be possible to put these trials in place without your help and expertise. What a lovely team of competitors we had, it was great to meet some new faces too and to have a chance to talk to you all. Great selection of dog breeds and sizes, from Groenendael, to Chihuahua, Maltipoo to collie, Cavalier to Cocker Spaniel, border terrier to Retriever and Sheltie…just proves all dogs can sniff! I hope you enjoyed the day, had an uneventful journey home and hope to see you again at another trial…
