This trial was run on behalf of Avon Working Dog Society as their first level 1 Scentwork Trial. For a number of competitors this was also their first trial and the lovely sunny day enabled them to sit outside and socialise which I am sure helped put them at their ease.
The hall at Langley Burrell is ideal for Scentwork with sufficient parking, a separate area for the outdoor searches, a warm room for competitors to wait in had we needed it, a large hall (apologies we didn’t anticipate needing to turn the heating off, unfortunately didn’t know how to – probably somewhere behind a locked door!) giving dogs space to work in and an adjoining large field to ourselves for dog exercise.
When this trial was in the planning stage a very cold February was forecast, instead it was a glorious spring like day. We had an experienced team for these novice competitors in Jennie Fairweather as judge and Sue Dawe as scribe, the job of runner was shared with Mar
ie Poole and Kerry Paterson for the first two searches and Rodney Veazey and Liz Axford for the last.
A big thank you to all for making my job easy, the competitors for being available when called, to Vanessa Cook and Felicity Veazey for their scrumptious home made cakes and to Barry Cook and Sue Dawe for bringing their cleaned cars for the vehicle search.
I will leave Jennie to comment on the tests.
