first of all can i apologise for the delayed report- the notes from the trial have been in the car which i have just got back from the garage !
thankyou to Mandy for asking me to judge at this lovely venue and for the wonderful scribe Joyce who was so helpful.
i said at the judges breifing that i wanted to see happy dogs and owners having fun, and I certainly saw that! lots of lovely supportive handling and i just had to smile at watching some lovely partnerships.
the first search was table and chairs and perimeter, nearly all the teams were successful and found both hides, with some teams unfortunately getting caught by their dogs interest in other items leading to false alerts . most of my notes said ‘happy, enthusiastic ‘ and Kelly evans and Data had lots of fun searching, with Data earning a well deserved second place overall. Clay did struggle with the floor, but Helen Taylor kept him calm and allowed him time to work with some lovely handling- this team achieved first place overall and was lovely to watch.
Jo Ronson and Ronnie were a complete joy to watch, such good, sympathetic handling and a great team
we then went outside to do the exterior search where all the teams successfully identified both hides , Julie Nelson with Ricco demonstrated some lovely tasking and very calm methodical searching. Scott Hamblett with Lilo was very patient, with some gentle handling and lovely rewarding. Wesley Evans with December had a nice independent search, with a very good indication
we then went back indoors for boxes and luggage, a lot of owners said this was their nemesis, but all bar one found all items, Cerys Wolfenden handled the very happy Alfie, who let us know of his excitement- happily woofing away , lovely to watch. Nell working with Jane Hudson-evans searched well and has a lovely indication, Catherine Prentice allowed Georgy to work independently and he worked very confidently and happily, with good tasking where needed.
Back out for the last search, the sun had come out and many of the dogs were tired, but we saw some lovely searching, Joanne pegge handled the very busy Milo well, keeping him on task and working well. Janet handled Sully well, with a very environmental dog focussing and working well, finding both articles. December decided to keep everyone on their toes finding the second article literally at the last minute! showing that patience pays off.
a huge well done to everyone, i hope you enjoyed the trial and even if it didnt go quite how you wanted, you have positives to take away and things to work on. but 7 clean sweeps was very impressive.
a HUGE well done to Helen and Clay, a great partnership and a fantastic dog ( he air scents so well !) lovely to watch and a very well deserved first place.
also to Kelly and Data, i loved watching this team work, a very happy team and a beautiful dog with a lovely indication and a great 2nd place
i have to say also, that although Jo and Ronnie didnt place, this team made my day, such positive encouragement and love in this team , Ronnie didnt know she didnt place, she just had the BEST time and was a little superstar and that is what this is all about.
i hope to see you all again soon
