I would like to start by,thanking Jo Crosby D, for inviting me down to the lovely Canvey Island,to judge levels 1 and 4.A special Thankyou to my scribes and helpers, over the weekend. So many were so keen to help, and included Danielle,Sue,Karen,Ann,Dawn,Julie and Natalie.I felt like a king,so many ladies, running around offering thier help, and it wasn’t for my good looks,I can assure you.So a big Thankyou to all of you, from me.

Level 1

We started with the tables and chairs search,Having 6 of the teams on cloves scent and 6 on gun oil.I hid the scent underneath one of the chairs,at the back.7 of the 12 teams were successful, with Jackie and Summer and Ann and Taffy leading the way in around 30 secs. We then moved outdoors to the vehicle search, obviously using 2 separate cars, owing to the different scents. One, I hid in the front number plate and the other in the front drivers wheel. The wind on the day was playing havoc with the scent. However the dogs coped admirably, with 11 of the 12 going to source.Ann and Taffy in an amazing 10 secs. Moving on to boxes and luggage where I hid the scent in a zip compartment of a bag.5 of the 6 teams using gun oil were successful and 2 of the 6 using cloves.Excellent times by both,Shelly and Brandi and Lesley and Locki,on 20 and 22 secs respectfully. Once again we moved outdoors,to the showery, windy conditions, for the exterior search. Why worry,no problem for the dogs,10 of the 12 identifying the correct article.Jo and Snoop on 16 secs,Jackie and Summer,22 secs and Emma and Cookie on 26 secs. Some lovely searching, given the difficult conditions.A little nerves shown by some of the handlers on the day,but this will improve,I’m sure. Congratulations to our 4 rosette winners,Wendy and Teddy,1st,Shelly and Brandi,2nd,Leslie and Locki 3rd,and Jackie and Summer 4th.

Well done to all who took part,I’m sure you will all go on to have great success in the future..

Level 4

There were 7 entrants for this level. We had 2 contestants using truffle and gun oil and the others on gun oil and cloves. We commenced with the boxes and luggage search, the truffle scent was hidden in zipped compartment of a bag and the gun oil in the wheel of a shopping trolley. After the 1st 2 dogs had run,The bag was swapped around to cloves scent.3 of the teams correctly identified both scents.Jo and Ehran in 31 secs, closely followed by Jennifer and Sullivan in 44 secs. Moving on to the vehicle search, where I chose to hide both scents on 1 of the 3 vehicles. The front offside wheel and the other in the bottom door seam,on the passenger side.Only 1 team failed to find both scents.Kate and Kiwi leading the way, with a time of 44 secs. Please bear in mind, the vehs were swapped around, owing to the different scents being used. Tables and chairs were next on the agenda.1 scent hidden centrally under a chair, the other in a black plastic container on the perimeter. 4 teams found both scents,Jo and Ehran in 23 secs,Jennifer and Sullivan, hot on thier heels in 29 secs. On to the exterior. The scents being hidden in trainer shoes and the base of a traffic cone. I’m Please to say all teams found both scents, with Kate and Kiwi ahead on 44 secs. The distraction scents used on the day, were,Tea and Almond oil.

The overall handling was of a good standard.2 teams finished with a max 100 points, only 18 secs separating them.
