Also a big thank you to Bridgette for scribing duties and Mary for keeping the competitor flow. It has been a while since I have judged a L2 and I must say that the standard of competitors has greatly improved and it was very difficult for me to steal points from many of the teams. Just a couple of points of interest which I hope will enable some of you to tweak your performance for future trials. There is a 4ft rule in the wall/vehicle search meaning that there needs to be a distance of at least 4ft between hidden scents. After finding the first scented article some competitors, continued to search quite closely to the already found scent. Also, some competitors didn’t verbally ‘mark’ the find and after a correct ‘find’ the competitor left the search area and gave their dog a treat. Some dogs appeared rather puzzled by this wondering what the treat was for not making the link between the ‘Find’ and the reward. The good news was that everyone qualified. There were some lovely partnerships and lovely to see some golden oldies, Shelley & Duckie, 11yrs, Rachel & Finch 11 and a half and Irene & Poppy 13 yrs. Congratulations to the place getters and also to Emma & Rupert and Paula Jazz on gaining your L2 ‘Ex’ today. 1st Julie & Chester – Julie was rather nervous and doubted Chester ability in the first search but Chester is absolutely awesome. Chester picked up the odour under the table and his working to source was a delight to watch. Julie was one of the few competitors who did ‘reward mark’ her dog the instance Chester found the hide, so well done. A very memorable performance so well done on getting the red one. 2nd Katie & Luna. I have judged this team before, and I do just love the partnership between these two. Katie knows how to leave her nerves behind and because of this Luna is very calm and extremely accurate. Good call on the perimeter item in the table & chair search especially as it was the only second item that Luna checked out. An excellent example of team work. Well done 3rd Emma & Rupert. I haven’t seen this team before and what a lovely sensible chappie Rupert is. Rupert certainly isn’t one of those Spaniels that hairs around pretending to search when in fact they aren’t, Rupert a very accurate and time efficient searcher. With Emma at the ‘driving wheel’ Rupert is destined to have a bright scentwork future. Well done. 4th Debbie & Dylan. A Pointer with a super attitude to scentwork completing the table & chair search in just 30 seconds. No deductions in the other searches resulted in Dylan gaining a 4th place. Debbie just needs to direct Dylan to the lower items a little more as Dylan is a particularly is a tall lad. Comments are closed.
