Our second trial at this new venue in Thurleigh and once again not very good weather. This time it was the wind rather than rain. As the day wore on the wind got progressively worse making the vehicle search really challenging.. But all the handlers kept smiling, which was great.

I arrived in plenty of time to set up ready, Judge Nikkiand scribe Janet Wykes arrived lovely and early. Jennie Dean and Jamie Read (her scribe for the day) had trouble on the motorways but still arrived in time.Everyone pitched in to help set up so we were all ready to get started on time.

We had the judges briefing, ran the white dog and then the searching began.

I was doing the running in the morning but as all the competitors knew what they were doing they made my job really easy. ensure all competitors arrived at their search area in time so that the judges were not kept waiting.

All ran very smoothly, considering the wind!!!

Nikki finished the tables and chairs and then moved outside for the vehicle search. This gave Jennie and her scribe – Jamie Read – time to get inside and warm up.

Once all searches were complete everyone was ushered into the hall for the results.

Most people qualified – and it was really lovely to see some new faces.

Huge thank you to Nikki Inglis and Jennie Dean for judging all day. Also massive thank you’s to Helen Kennedy for scribing in the afternoon, and Kym Salisbury for running in the afternoon.

Plus a huge thank you to all who lent their cars for the vehicle as without this help we cannot run these trials.

Hopefully I have thanked all my helpers – we really cannot put these trials on without you so your help is so very much appreciated.

We were all done by 4:30’ish and then time for results and photos.

Great result. Until next time – thank you all so much – for helping, competing and always being such lovely people.

Marianne

I was very pleased to have been asked by Marianne to judge for her at the new venue of Thurleigh, a very pretty village with lovely thatched houses and a delightful church. I was judging alongside Jennie Dean, so a fun day was promised and had by all {I hope?} Firstly, thank you to all who helped and stepped in where they were needed you know who you are, and it was much appreciated.

We started the morning with Level 3 and we decided that as the weather was brewing up for a storm we would split the inside and outside searches both morning and afternoon so I started inside with Tables and Chairs and Perimeter Searches and Jennie started outside with the Exterior Search, then I went out into the wind to do the Vehicle Search and Jennie came inside to search the Boxes and Luggage.

My first competitors certainly got on with the job; Lovely straight finds from Lorraine and Chester, Kym and Max and Melanie and Rowan, Catherine and Cael had a few moments of distraction with noises from the kitchen but searched well and thoroughly. Caroline and Mr Wilson searched methodically and as did Eliot and Toby and Collette with Lola. Barbara has her hands full with Joey, a lovely if over enthusiastic spaniel. There were some very quick movers in Wendy and Chilli, and Helen and Preston. Zac and Jean had a particularly bad journey to the venue, and he was not at his best in the morning, Charles and Skye worked hard together as did Shaun and Cassie. The wind outside when we searched the cars was a big influence on the results as it was difficult to work with the swirling currents. Overall, I saw some good work with solid partnerships forming. Good luck in the future.

In the afternoon Jennie and I decided to swap the searches we had judged in the morning, again the car search in the mounting winds proved to be very influential.

Charles and Skye had entered the afternoon trial as well as the morning but being only a couple of points off Level 3 Excellent, they decided to be non-competitive, but we still judged them and gave feedback as if they were taking part, but their scores just did not count, it was a good choice. They weren’t the only ones to stay for the day as Caroline and Mr Wilson, Jean and Zac also competed in the afternoon. Zac certainly was better after his power nap at lunchtime, showing really clear solid finds in both my sections, I am sure he went home and slept heavily after the day’s exertions. Lynda and Max had well established alert, Sharon and Inka worked well with good indications on all finds. Kathy and Rowan showed their solid partnership with good finds and steady work. It was delightful to see Quincy the beagle {with Wendy} doing what they are supposed to – using their nose to great effect. Lisa was incredibly pleased with Tomba’s efforts after his busy week at Crufts. Kate and Kiwi put in good searches on both my sections. It was nice to see Nikam and Dave, whom I have trained with in the past, Nikam is still working hard and training Dave to achieve better indications! The jubilation of Wendy and River and Janet and Jess at completing their last Level 4 showed what hard work and a great achievement that it is.

Thank you again and look forward to seeing you all in the future.

Nikki Inglis
