Other than an emergency venue change six days before the event, I’m pleased to say that our first trial went off without a hitch. We had a full house of 20 competitors for which we were very grateful. Thank you all for your support.

Many thanks to our judge, Heather Donnelly, who put the competitors at ease with her calm, professional approach. Heather set perfect tests with consideration for the environment and weather conditions.

Our thanks also to our band of helpers for giving up their Sunday to join us. Noreen for scribing (first time and a brilliant job), Emily for organising the parking, David and Raymond for ensuring the competitors were in the right place at the right time and Rose for doing anything else that was needed. You guys made the day run smoothly and efficiently.
As always, Lyn made sure everyone was full of hot drinks and fabulous home-made cake!

The weather was kind to us – a bright, sunny and dry day, if a little windy.

To say we are delighted with the results is an understatement. All 20 competitors qualified which I believe is unusual and there was a 100% success rate on both the vehicle and container searches.

Congratulations to our winners, Deborah and Majic who also achieved their Excellent Award today, we are so pleased for you. A special mention also to the handlers that train at Best Paw Forward DTC, we are thrilled that you all qualified. Excellent for your first time out!

We hope this will be the first trial of many and look forward to seeing you all again.

I must admit that this was a most well organised trial that Lyn Bowers and her band of helpers ran. Lyn was super efficient with her paperwork , kept on top of all the scores on the laptop, as well as keeping all the competitors happy and supplying me with refreshments throughout the day. Of course no trial can run well with the help from ‘runners’ who were Raymond and David, a super efficient scribe, Noreen as well as helpers in the kitchen and car park duties Emily, as well as those that made those wonderful cakes! – I even had one with my name on it!

So now to the task of judging and it was to the very high standard today that everyone passed which is very unusual indeed. I was also amazed with so many unusual breeds with, Humphrey the KCS who unfortunately was scared by a very, very loud passing motorbike missing out on a c/s which I am sure he would have got, ‘Clayton’ the very enthusiastic American Cocker Spaniel who completed the ‘Exterior Search’ in just 12 seconds, ‘Alfie’ the Beagle who’s ‘going to source’ was awesome to watch and well done to Michael the handler, for knowing this and knowing when to hold back on the call and Lyn with her Lhasa Apso Tero giving a good all round performance with a clear ‘sit’ indication telling mum when she had found the scent and coming 4th.

The winner was Debbie & Majic a great team to watch and didn’t put a foot wrong gaining top marks. This team also walked away with their well deserved ‘Excellent’ title on the day too so well done. 2nd, was Margret & Kiki a blind Buhund. I must say that the partnership between these two was truly incredible and a joy to watch. Well done. The 3rd spot went to Coco whose owner was dreading the vehicle search but Coco took the challenge well and along with the other 3 searches showed a very competent performance. 4th was Lyn with Tero already mentioned earlier.

Also a special mention to Vanessa & Willow the Saluki who was just so wary about the whole proceeding but along with Vanessa lovely quiet and sensitive handling and also for keeping her cool when she was one down in the table & chair search at the start. Well done Vanessa on both of these accounts. Also Rio, like a lot of the dogs, showed a lot of interest in the rear wheel of the vehicle but well done Joe for keeping your head by not jumping in too early causing a false alert.
