Very proud to have to have hosted and managed the first Scentwork UK Trial in South Wales!!

Many Thanks to our lovely judge Pippa Bentham, who put everyone at ease and gave excellent constructive feedback.

Thanks also to our helpers Ian and Julie Arrowsmith, who did a great job, Ian keeping the trial running smoothly and Julie looking after the catering.

There was a slight shower in the morning, but overall the weather was kind to us, just what we are used to in Wales.

I volunteered to scribe to watch everyone compete and thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Firstly I’d like to thank Shaun and Sue Kenvyn for asking me to judge their level 1 and 2 trial, this was the first trial they have organised and run, ably assisted by Ian and Julie Arrowsmith, and I have to say it was a lovely day, everything ran like lockwork and the competitors all seemed to enjoy themselves.

As ever with any competition there were one or two in each level who were not quite as confident and allowed nerves to creep in, despite this I think everyone had a good go at the search areas and were mostly successful.

There were areas in both levels where the handling could have been better but overall it was ok. The vehicle and exterior items searches were made interesting by a rather blustery swirling stiff breeze, the rain mostly held off for which we were all very grateful.

Shaun was my steward for the day and did an excellent job, thank you.

Lastly I’d like to thank all the competitors, you accepted my decisions with good grace and hopefully enjoyed the searches.

My congratulations to all the qualifiers and commiserations to those who were not quite ready but well done for having a go.

Pippa Bentham
