We had a lovely day on Sunday in spite of the hot weather. We kept the dogs cool with paddling pools and liver flavoured frozen popsicles which were enjoyed by all the dogs.
The standard of the dogs and handlers was really high with 4 dogs in level 1 gaining full marks and everyone passing level 2 in the afternoon.
Congratulations to Jil Harper with Herbie and Janet Wykes with Jess for both gaining their excellent awards. Janet also went on to pass level 2 in the afternoon.
Many thanks to Karen Denton and Sue Benson for judging, everyone appreciated their advice and tips on training. Kieran and Michelle were excellent scribes for both level 1 and 2 and to Geneve who was the runner in the afternoon.
We also need to make special mention of Jenny for providing such fabulous refreshments which helped to keep everyone going during the day.

I was very pleased to be asked by Anne to judge this trial alongside Karen Denton. We each judged 2 disciplines for each trial which worked very well.
Level 1. Some lovely searches and handling in the exterior search and boxes and luggage. It was very rewarding after giving feedback to see the handlers taking note of what was said and putting it into practice . Jil and Herbey were very worthy winners of level 1 and achieving their Excellence award too.
Level 2. The sun was very hot and some of the dogs and handlers struggled with the car search, but perseverance paid off for most in the end. Sue Kirkwood deserved her win of level 2, quiet, speedy searches.
Many thanks to my very efficient scribe, Keiron. The wonderful cakes and lunch and altogether a very enjoyable day.

I had the pleasure of Sue’s company as co judge for this Level 1 & 2 Trial at Anne’s lovely venue in Walcote. We judged the Level 1 competitors in the morning and the Level 2 folk in the afternoon.
Sue and I split the judging into one inside and one outside search each. We both started in the morning with the outside searches and I was judging the vehicle search. Most dogs managed to do this in a really quick time and we were through in no time at all and before the temperature had reached the high 20s. Impressive teams with focus and excellent handling in this search were Janet & Jess, Felicity & Danni Darko, Wendy & Quincy, Lynda & Strangle and Maggie & Bran.
I was overseeing the Tables and Chairs search and it was a relief for people to get inside where it was a lot cooler. Charles & Misty did a lovely quiet and steady job, Jil’s Herbie gave a beautiful indication and along with Janet & Jess, they were both going for their Excellence rosette, were both excellent coming in at 1st and 2nd.
The high temperatures which the afternoon brought did not deter people from travelling from far and wide to this Trial. I started with Boxes and Luggage with Sue & Tilly shining and Sara & Tia doing a fabulous search too. Quite a few people talk to much to their dogs during the search urging them to ‘find it’ which can put the dogs off and have exactly the opposite effect as the dog starts to feel pressure and it unsettles them.
I went outside for the Exterior Search which was under partial shade which helped a little with the heat and humidity. Sandra & Lexie produced a lovely team effort, Jo did a magnificent job of motivating a very hot Milo to perform and Steve who had the last search of the day with Labradoodle, Stan, also had to work hard to keep another very hot dog on task but he did so with patience and thoughtful handling and was rewarded with a clean sweep rosette. Well done Steve. A special mention to Janet & Jess who came 2nd in Level 1 in the morning and was a qualifier in Level 2 in the afternoon. Congratulations to Sue & Tilly who won overall and took the red rosette.
I’d like to thank Anne for inviting me to judge for her and also for her hospitality. She has a wonderful friend who always puts on an amazing spread and a lovely lunch. The dogs were also well catered for with ice lollies and paddling pools. I must thank Michelle, my scribe, who hadn’t done the job before but who was wonderfully efficient.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day with a lovely group of people and their dogs who are clearly enjoying this sport and becoming as crazily addicted as me! See you all around in Trials to come! 😊
