Another lovely sunny day here in Brogborough as we set up ready for the trial today.
Today we have level 1 & 2 and I am looking forward to welcoming a few new people with their dogs. It is always lovely to see new competitors.
Jennie Dean one of the judges was travelling a long way and got help up on the M25 but made it in time. It is great that our judges are happy to travel so far to help out at these trials.
Helen Soper the other judge had to withdraw as her little dog came into season. So I jumped in and judged instead. So a busy day being the trial manager and judging all day but due to having great helpers it all worked out very well with no hold ups or problems.
A huge thank you to Jennie Dean for judging, Lorraine Coley and Kathy Killick who both scribed for the level 1 in the morning. Also to Anna Coyne who stayed and scribed level 2 in the afternoon. Also to Jane for running in the afternoon. Jane has just started scentwork and came along to watch and see what happens for when she is ready to compete with her little dog Jess. And of course to my fabulous daughter Nicki who fills in with all the jobs. Ensuring judges and helpers always have a hot drink, running when necessary and generally helping to ensure the trial runs smoothly.
Thank you to everyone who attended today and abided by the new rules the village hall have given us.
As a trial host I do not always get to watch very many of the searches but today I was able to watch lots and it was a great pleasure.
More from my judges report.
Thank you Marianne
Helen Soper
An unexpected pleasure to be able to judge at todays trial in Brogborough.
Luckily the day was bright and sunny with hardly any wind. (And NO bonfires!!!)
I was judging the exterior and the vehicle search for level 1 whilst Jennie was doing the boxes/luggage and the tables/chairs.
Lorraine Coley was my very capable scribe. Nicki was running and ensuring that the competitors were flowing so no waiting around.
In fact we finished level 1 and presented certificates, rosettes and trophies by midday so we were on time.
The exterior search was handled extremely well by all handlers and dogs with everyone finding the scented article and only 2 people taking over 30 seconds.
We moved onto the vehicle search and once again some fabulous handling with only one dog not able to locate the find.
A very well deserved win by Jan Martin with Mattie Ulster Snow who also received her Excellent rosette today.
Charles Robert had a very busy day with Breeze in level 1 and then two dogs in level 2. I think he must have gone home exhausted. All three dogs qualified with Skye and Misty coming 3rd and 4th in level 2 respectively.
During level 2 in the afternoon Nicki was my scribe and we were indoors. The tables/chairs was handled really well with only one false alert. The boxes and luggage proved a little harder as there were a few false alerts. Mostly from people who just called the alert too early when the dog was only having a look.
Kathy Killick came first with a very happy Rowan. Lorraine Coley was second with Chester. Kathy and Lorraine were the only ones with clean sweeps in level 2.
A really lovely day and looking forward to the next trial.
Thank you Marianne
Jennie Dean
Firstly I’d like to start by thanking Marianne for asking me to judge. This was only my second appointment so I was still slightly nervous about it. We started with the level 1’s and I was doing the inside searches. Up first we did the tables and chairs, it was really lovely to seem some great partnerships. We only had 3 false alerts, 2 of which were on the chair next to the scented one. On next to the boxes and luggage, I’d set this up with a box in the middle of the room, this caught a few people out but the last search of the morning was Val and Heikie and wow it was impressive. Heikie found it in seconds and Val confidently called the alert.
When we toted up the scores I was thrilled to see Jan and Mattie had won. When he came in for his searches you could he was incredible nervous but as soon as he started searching he was like a different dog. You can see all the hard work Jan has put into their relationship and it was lovely to see it pay off.
Onto the level 2’s and myself and Marianne switched. So I had vehicle searches first, most dogs struggled to begin with with the distracting floor but most went on fine them both successfully. Charles and Misty were the only pairing to successfully avoid being drawn down to the floor, she was on task the whole time and found then both in quick succession. Onto the exterior and nearly all of the partnerships found both scents, Kathy and Rowan were on impressive form and found both scents in 26s!
Congratulations to Kathy and Rowan for winning the level 2 but also to Lorraine and Chester who were only 0.2 behind!
I throughly enjoyed my day judging, it was really lovely to see so fab partnerships developing. Well done to everyone who took part qualified or not. I hope you took something away from the day and I look forward to seeing you all out again soon.
