Trial Manager and Judges Reports

Heather Donnelly

L2 Judges Report.
A very well organised 2nd trial ran by Susanne & Ewen but this time I was to judge the L2 competitors.
Again unusually everyone qualified although the ‘Exterior Search’ proved more difficult for the first group than it did for the second group. I used a wooden decking area behind the cricket hut and the smells on the wooden decking and the fallen acorns seemed to be just so alluring for some of the dogs. However Gill and her Labrador Paddy completed a very focused free search finding both hides in just 35 seconds. This team continued to put in good quality and consistent performance in the 3 other searches to gain a well deserved 3rd place. Well done.
The interior searches were well executed by most teams although Steph & Liz’s Jack Russell Terriers were a pad enthusiastic. Liz’s and her Jack Russell Benji took a little while to settle in the first search and from then knuckled down illustrating good focused searches. Liz knows Benji so well and with this together with Liz’s very polished handling resulted in this team going on to gain first place. A well deserved win well done.
In 2nd place and on the same marks as the winner were Lyn and Tero. Lhasa Apso’s aren’t renown for their nosework abilities but with Lyn’s sensitive handling and guiding this team made qualifying this L2 look so easy. I also learned that these 2nd place gained sufficient points enabling Tero to gain her ‘Excellent’ title, well done.
4th place was Maggie & Evie and again another super performance throughout all the four searches. A very speedy and accurate Box & luggage search alerting correctly on both hides in just 32 seconds. This team were just a little unlucky on the vehicle search which unfortunately cost this team time. Again lovely sensitive faultless handling, well done.
