Our judges for the day were Geoff Dixon and Sue Abbott-Dixon. We arrived with plenty of time to set up and we started with tables and chairs and vehicle search, these were in general completed successfully which got everyone off to a good start.
The feedback given by Geoff and Sue was very positive and helpful and was much appreciated by all the competitors
The level 1 trial finished with time to have a break for lunch and set up for the level 3s in the afternoon.
We were lucky with the weather which stayed fine until after the trial had finished, with the first spots of rain falling as the exterior search finished.
The day went very smoothly thanks to the helpers and Jenny’s home-made cakes, which have become quite a feature of our trials.
A special mention goes to Michelle and Kieran who scribed for the whole day and to Ruth, Laura and Sara who helped organise the competitors and calculate the results.
We couldn’t run a trial without the support of helpers, we are very lucky to have such a supportive group of people.
Thank you for inviting us to Judge Anne, I would also like to thank the team.
What a lovely group of, helpers, bakers and scribes, it was a pleasure to meet you all.
We began the day with the level 1. It was lovely to see such a variety of dogs, from little Dandy to lovely Clara, and everything inbetween.
I was doing the Exterior Element, and Geof Tables and Chairs.
Gloria and Jade started the day with a really lovely Exterior search, so the bar had been set high, Dandy followed, Julia handled him beautifully, for another great search, and the standard continued with Ruby, Mieke and Lola all performing really well.
Inside, Mable was doing well, and Jane worked Dinah really well.
We moved on to Vehicle search, and Boxes and luggage.
I have to say that everyone did really well on vehicles, there were some really lovely searches, it was nice to see the dogs working the scent to source beautifully. I think you should all be really proud of your dogs here, they were a joy to watch.
Clara was a little distracted in the environment, but picked up the scent and followed to to source. Michelle did really well with both dogs here, Sully worked the car beautifully, and little Pye, despite being worried by some loud Bangs going on, overcame her little stress with a super enthusiastic search.
Inside boxes and luggage were proving tricky. but Chilli showed us how it should be done.
I would like to congratulate Wendy here, both dogs were exceptional today, meaning Wendy walked away with 1st and 2nd place. Amazing.
Well done Everyone, I hope your introduction to Scentwork trials has been a positive one.
A quick break, for a dog walk and a fab lunch. and then on to the Level 3.
I headed inside for Boxes and Luggage, and Geof Vehicles.
Boxes and Luggage proved to be tricky again, we had 2 extremes here that have to get a mention, the little red whirlwind
Charlie was awesome finding both scents in just 47 seconds, and Lima was so steady, with Jackies patient handling, she also found both, what a fab team. There were some nice indications on the box from Jess, Mr Wilson, Lexi, and Amber.
Vehicles, we had some really nice searches here. Mr Wilson did a great job, as did Rowan and Jess, Stan settled into it to finish well, and Lexi and Amber were handled well.
I then headed to the Exterior, and Geof to the Tables and Perimeter.
I thought the Exterior may prove tricky in the fading light, but I needn’t have worried. I had hidden one scent in some brickwork, and it was a joy to watch the dogs track it down, Jess was a star! I was enjoying watching her work so much, I nearly missed Janets raised arm ! Tomba did a lovely indication on both articles, and Mr Wilson, the last dog to run proved that scentwork can be done in the dark !.
Meanwhile, there was some nice searching going on inside. It was quite unusual that there were no little dogs in this level so we were able to raise the perimeter scent to a step ladder, and it was nice to watch the bigger dogs work with their heads up. Dogs were also tracking in to the chair really well,
Congratulations Jan, Amber did you proud today. 1st place and an Excellent Rosette. Well Done.
