Wichenford Level 1 2.8.22 Judge’s report
Thank you to Trial Manager Bridget Francis, scribe Judy Starkie and runner Irene Crow. PWDTS Scentwork has an amazing team which allow these events to run consistently well.
Well done to all 11 competitors who qualified. it was a warm day with light winds, conditions were favourable for the dogs. We started with tables and chairs with the odour being on the back right hand chair in the corner. All the dogs found this odour and most without too much difficulty. Just a couple of dogs took a while as they chose to explore the room.
Outside for a wall search next, it is quite an environmental area at the back of the hall and the breeze blows lots of interesting smells off the neighbouring field but again most dogs found this without too much difficulty. One dog was in odour but not quite at source and missed out but only just.
Bags and boxes caused a few problems but again most got their find with some quick times. The exterior search was the last one with the odour on an empty electrical reel. All the dogs found this and there were some incredibly fast times – 6 seconds for Joyce and Luna and 8 seconds for Sue and Mollie.
This was a pleasure to judge and I was delighted that everyone qualified especially with a number of my own Scentwork trainees in attendance. A big well done to Charlotte with Bailey who was the winner on the day. I know how hard she’s worked to get the indication she now has and to prevent the trashing in boxes and bags. Luna (Joyce) showed a very consistent indication also and a methodical searching approach. Sue and Mollie were also very consistent and a great team. 2nd and 3rd place for these dogs was well deserved.
Well done also to the 3 excellence’s achieved yesterday, Charlotte and Bailey, Joyce and Luna and Nikki and Cara.
