We had a mild and dry day for the L1 at Wichenford. Thanks as always to my TM Bridget for running an efficient trial and keeping things running smoothly and to Judy Starkie – good to have you back scribing.
Everyone qualified at this trial which was lovely to see and we had two newbies who were at their first trial so very well done to them. Those that didn’t get a clean sweep, it was just down to handler errors and I know you will be kicking yourselves! One called too early, one didn’t believe the dog’s indication and two called on general interest rather than a definite indication. I am sure trial nerves played a part, all the dogs were very capable and will go on to do even better.
Everyone easily found the odour on the table and chairs with fast times from Spud, Storm and Crisp.
The wall search was new for a couple of dogs and the area can be quite environmental. Remember to task your dog in carefully and observe which areas they have missed. The odour was on the door hinge and fairly easy to find for the dogs who were sniffing.
Boxes and bags, the odour was on the buckle of a leather satchel. Most dogs found it fairly easily with a couple of dogs just getting distracted and nervous owners calling too quickly.
Exterior items, the odour was on a roll of electrical cable and the two other items were a basket and a step ladder. All dogs found the odour.
I saw some lovely handling today, for the most part calm and supportive of the dogs. Well done to everyone and especially the rosette winners. Top two were only separated by 3 seconds. I look forward to seeing you all at future trials.
