Trial Manager and Judges Reports

First off I would like to thank Karen Denton for asking me to judge her level 5 trial, also thanks to Hazell Williamson for scribing throughout the day.
We started with interior 1 which was held in the main hall of the venue. 5 hides were hidden and they were (from left to right) bottom of a cupboard door, corner of a suitcase lid, Extension cable holder, bottom of double cupboard doors, and on a chair in the middle of the room. 5/10 teams found all hides and they were Marie & Roger, Hannah & Quinn, Linda & Elsa, Ellen & Meg and Peter & Coco. 4/10 teams found 4 and they were Lisa & Tomba, Anne & Ozzie, Lynda & Max and Sheila & Zak. 1/10 teams found 2 and that was Julie & Poppy. The most missed hide was the first hide placed in the cupboard door.

Then to the exterior, this was held on the paving area around the building. This area can be tricky as the wind tends to circle in this area. The hides were on the edge of a flower pot, in the legs on a stack of chairs, a bracket on a drain pipe and in a crack in the wall. 4/10 teams found all 4 hides and they were Anne & Ozzie, Lynda & Max, Peter & Coco and Linda & Elsa. 3/10 teams found 3 and they were Ellen & Meg, Marie & Roger and Lisa & Tomba. and 3/10 teams found 2 hides and they were Sheila & Zak, Hannah & Quinn and Julie & Poppy. The most missed hide was the drain pipe bracket.

Lastly it was the 2nd interior search, this was held in the foyer and disabled toilet. The hides were bottom of a toilet door, the frame of the cupboard door and a chair leg bracket in the disabled toilet. 2 teams found all 3 hides and they were Hannah & Quinn and Peter & Coco. 4/9 teams found 2 and they were Lynda & Max, Marie & Roger, Anne & Ozzie and Lisa & Tomba. 3/9 found 1 hide and they were Ellen & Meg, Linda & Elsa and Sheila & Zak. Sadly Julie & Poppy left early as Poppy was having trouble with her allergies, I hope she’s feeling better soon.

It was a cold but successful day with 7/10 teams qualifying and they were 1st place Peter & Coco, 2nd Place Hannah & Quinn, 3rd place Linda & Elsa and 4th Place to Marie & Roger. Also qualifying were Anne & Ozzie, Lynda & Max and Ellen & Meg. Well done everyone, it was an interesting trial with some lovely handling from some of the teams and some lovely dogs. I Look forward to seeing you all in the future.

Trial Managers Report

It was a cold but dry day for our Level 5 Trial at Romsley but unfortunately there’s nowhere for the handlers to wait in the warm so I hope no-one got too frozen.

Ali Brannen was judging and Hazell Williamson scribing. Ali set up the hides and the white dog was run blind and timed which was the case for all three areas. We started on time as everyone had arrived promptly and a most dog teams did well in the first interior search which was the main hall had fives hides and several competitors won themselves a bonus of ten points for finding all of them.

The exterior search generally went well too despite the wind having picked up by the time we got out there. Again quite a few earning a well-deserved bonus.

The second interior search area proved a bit more tricky for some even though it was quite a small area being the foyer and the disabled toilet. There was less success here and some dogs would have performed better if the handlers had tasked them in more.

However, we had a good percentage of qualifiers with only three Dog teams not being successful on this occasion. Many congratulations to Peter & Coco who did particularly well winning the Trial with maximum points across the board. Congratulations too to Hannah & Quin who came 2nd, Linda & Elsa who were 3rd and Marie & Roger who were placed 4th.

Huge thanks to Ali and Hazell who gave up their day for us to be able to do this Trial and to Sheila who tidied up the kitchen for me.

See you next time.

Karen Denton
