Judges Report

Thank you so much to Jackie for asking me to judge, Carrick for being a brilliant white dog and to Gill for being such an amazing scribe.

There were a small but select group for the level 1’s today, it was extremely hot but there was a slight breeze so it was nicer out than in.

Tables and chairs. There were 8 chairs arranged around 2 large tables. 2 chairs on each side. The find was placed on the underside of a chair on the left at the front of the area. 3/4 found this. There were some amazing times but I must give special mention to Victoria and Angus who did a brilliant search at their first ever Scentwork UK competition. Victoria was going to start at the chair next to the find and going to go anti clockwise around the tables but Angus was not having any of it and pulled back to the find. It was lovely to watch. Also a special mention to Pip and Maple who found the find in 5 secs.

Exterior. There were 12 items used. The finds were on a collapsed crate on the right hand side near the front 3/4 found this. The other find was in the top of a hug boot on the left hand side at the front of the area 4/4 found this. Everyone coped really well and I was very impressed.

Bags, Boxes and Containers. I personally think this is one of the harder searches. The finds were on a flap of a rucksack near the back on the left hand side 2/4 found this. The other find was on a box on the right hand side at the back 2/4 found this. 2 dogs found both the finds in about the same time.

Wall. I used a wall out the back of the village hall and there was quite a nice breeze (well hot breeze). I hid the find in a crack of the wall about 1 1/2 metres from the start. 3/4 found this. I must give special mention to Lesley and Zennor. Zennor a standard poodle is somewhat exuberant and the last time I judged him he would have pulled Lesley straight to the end of the wall and missed the find. This time he was brilliant and found the find in an amazing 12 seconds.

Everyone did so well today and you should be proud the dogs worked very hard. Congratulations to Pip and Maple who won with 100 points and also gained there Excellent. Les and Zennor who were 2nd and Victoria and Angus who were 3rd.
